E-mail messages have recently been sent to participants in this year's Biscay Triangle Rally requesting preferences for berthing at Torquay. The choices are between the Town Dock Marina and Torquay MDL Marina. Please reply to Tony Diment (tonydiment@bluewaterrallies.com) giving the required dates for berthing and your choice of marina. The e-mail outlines the costs and facilities available at each marina.

Martin and Helen from `Makathea' have now sent us their full story. Sadly, they have been beset with a number of problems which seriously delayed their start from Torquay and are now confining them to Brest in France. Martin has tried in vain to remain in contact with the rally fleet but clearly the range limitations of VHF and the restrictions of using mobile telephones in coastal areas have conspired to produce difficulties.

The attendance of the Chairman of Torbay Council (Councillor Matthew Phillips) (aka The Mayor) has been confirmed for both the Departure Dinner at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club on Monday 26th July and for the start of the Rally at 1000am off Haldon Pier on Tuesday 27th July. It has become a rally tradition for the 'The Mayor' to visit crews on the dockside before their departure for Spain and then to bid farewell from the start line as yachts start their trip across the English Channel and Biscay.

We have been informed that the correct name for Mark Phillips' Discovery 55 is `Kindred' rather than `Kindreo'. The list of participating yachts has been accordingly amended and we ask that you similarly amend your lists contained in the Rally Guide.

Participants are now signing up for this year's Yachting Monthly Biscay Triangle Rally.
Apart from the chance to complete the `triangle' to Spain, Brittany and back , many yachtsmen are now finding this a safe and enjoyable way to cross Biscay at the start of some extended cruising in Spain, Portugal or the Med. The rally gathers at Torquay over the weekend of 24th/25th July and sails for La Coruna on Tuesday 27th July. Be sure to book your place now by contacting Tony Diment

Now that the spray has dried upon everyone's decks it is time to sign off from this year's Biscay Triangle Rally. I have received various letters of appreciation concerning the rally and the common theme is that despite not reaching La Coruna due to the poor weather, everyone appreciated the efforts made at short notice to pull together a very pleasant cruise of Southern Brittany.

The Biscay Triangle Rally fleet are now returning to home waters and as they do so the weather is again turning foul. Northerly winds and rain are making things difficult as everyone is branching out for home ports from Camaret and L'Aberwrach after coming up the Chenal du Four from South Brittany.
